things aren't always what they seem...

don't you hate when you are so excited to do something and it is a total let down. you wish that you hadn't wasted the last 6 hours of your life and just would have stayed in bed that morning. Well if you think you have had it bad once here is a story that will make you grateful you stood in line at the movie theater for over an hour for a movie that was just sold out.

now this is pasted straight from the brochure:

Crazy Coyuca Lagoon Tour!

This beautiful fresh water lagoon is considered to be one of the most important natural attractions of Acapulco. This picturesque lagoon is thick with palms, water hyacinths and native flora.Your tour will include a boat ride through the dense vegetation before a magnificent buffet lunch!

Enjoy a boat ride cruising along the Coyuca Lagoon. Here you can watch and admire the wildlife of this freshwater lagoon. This area is famous for its tropical vegetation, which has been the location for many Hollywood movies including Sylvester Stallone's Rambo II.

When your air conditioned coach arrives at the heart of the lagoon you will transfer to a small boat to cruise through the thick vegetation. A paradise for birds with over 250 species, this tour is a must for nature lovers.

You will visit a local beachfront restaurant where you will enjoy a buffet lunch and open bar of domestic drinks. After lunch you can walk along the beach or just relax in a hammock.

oh wow doesn't that sound amazing??? we thought so too.

Our air conditioned coach was a mini van with tinted windows. Me, derek, and 1 other couple boarded our coach and we thought we were off. not so fast. we drove for 1 hour and 17 minutes until we reached another hotel on the other side of acapulco to pick up another couple. and we were off! driving for another 45 minutes to pick up 3 other girls. Cool 2 hours of my life sitting in a tinted window van, and i had to pee. so a half hour later we reached our destination. or so we thought. a 10 minute trek around some windy paths while our tour guide talks to us about cashew nuts. we finally reach a small boat.
now there where 9 of us plus 2 tour guides and a little boy. we had to position ourselves on the small boat so it would not tip over. and the little engine started and we put putted through the lagoon. with gas exhaust flying under our noses and the billions of nats surrounding us this tour was already on a wrong foot.

Our tour guide explained it was a half hour boat ride to the island that we were going to see then we were going to go to a beach front restaurant to see a real alligator! i figured what the heck a miserable half hour boat ride then i could see an alligator! and the island might be cool.

Here is the island.

Do you see anything profound?

ya we didn't either.
it was actually a small piece of land with some birds on it.
oh and a rock that "if you used your, 'how do you say,' imagination, looked like King Kong"
cool right?
no
well we thought the alligator could not be disappointing in anyway right? we got to the other island front restaurant and were met by little kids handing us menus and asking for tips. we walked up to a small box made out of concrete and fencing to find a small alligator surrounded by a ton of turtles. it was like what ever they could catch they put in this small box. once again disappointment. by this time we were all getting hungry and we were ready for the food.

a beach front restaurant sounded nice. we pulled up to one of the tour guides home. it was a nice home with a pool in the back yard and his wife and daughter were cooking.
"well here we are. make yourselves at home dinner should be ready in a bit. enjoy these coconuts while you wait and we will leave to go back to the hotel in 3 hours."

3 HOURS?!?! i want to go now!

the view was beautiful from the house, but i could also see the ocean from my room that had air conditioning, room service, and a tv. we tried to make the best of it. derek sipped his cocoloco while i tried to get comfortable in a hammock!

for dinner we had fish strips, fried chicken, beans, rice, and french fries.
enough said.

well it was back on our mini van for another 2.5 hours til we were back at our hotel, the Grand Mayan. and boy was it lookin' grand.

Oh Tamika, you are a natural blogger my dear. I love the stories, and yes the pictures make your experience seem depressing, that island IS quite amazing I would say. Sorry it wasn't what you expected, but thanks for sharing!

that is so funny! gosh it sounds like it was not very much fun! I would have been dying too:) but at least you were with each other- imagine how much worse it would have been if for example you had been alone with a gross fat guy who couldn't stop farting sitting next to you:) It could always be worse:) haha
