dolFin... phriend or phoe?

As you may or may not know me and derek recently went to acapulco mexico.
it was suppose to be a fun, laid back, relaxing vacation. who ever thought i'd get attacked by a dolphin...

Now if you ask derek he will say my story is exaggerated, and that i am embellishing the details in order to provide for a better storytelling. but let me tell you this now. this is FACT. 100%! and i lived to tell the tale.

when one hears dolphin, they think: fun, playful, nice, tricksters, smart, maybe even cute?...

well does this dolphin look like any of those?

do NOT be deceived.

This little terd of a fish had its way with me a couple of minutes before.

i am reluctant, but willing to share this tale.
A tale of a tail and a fin that almost got the best of me.

First a little background information. when swimming with the dolphins there are two employees. One that stands on the rim of the pool with a whistle. this whistle is the dolphins sound that means they come to attention in front of the whistle blower and wait to be told what to do. the second employee wades around in the water. sometimes gets out of the water, ya know just watches and tells us what to do.

the one and most important rule was only touch the dolphins on their flanks. this means behind the flippers. if the dolphin roles over you can rub its belly but that is it. don't touch its fins and especially not its snout area.

so we had done some pretty sweet tricks with the dolpins. we swam around the pool. we made them dance. they took us for a ride. and the last thing we did before the incident was give them a little kissy kissy smoochy smoochy.

NOW I KNOW FOR A FACT that i must be an amazing kisser because the whistle blower blew his whistle and only one dolphin came to attention. the other dolphin was busy roping my leg.

with it's under fin it kept hooking my leg and pulling me to the center of the pool. over and over again. i couldn't shake this critter. stranded in the pool. i was trying to play dead as to not touch the dolphin in a wrong place and make it madder. round and round. it was spinning me in circles. running its whole body along my pretend to be dead limp one. i hear the whistle blowing in the background. the dolfin is still swimming around me. head butting me. trying to hook me and take me under the water. is this how it is all going to end? i hear derek laughing! how could he be laughing at a time like this?!

then i feel a wet hand on my back. thank goodness, the other employee is pulling me back to the side of the pool. but still this dolphin is trying to hook my foot and keeps head butting me. we get to safety and the employee grabs the dolphins snout and pushes it under water. finally the dolpin hears the whistle and goes to attention.

then the employee turns to me and says, "that has never happened before... i guess the dolphin just wanted some playtime with you."
my reply was, "well i don't ever want to play that game again."
